This house was designed for the Chandler family, in Birdwood in the Mount Lofty Ranges of South Australia. The Chandlers wanted a house which would accommodate a young, growing family and also their elderly father. Therefore we allocated the spaces in the house in two parts; a self sufficient apartment to the south which would provide a quiet retreat for Mr Chandler senior, an an upstairs bedrooms and play area for the younger members, and a ground-floor living area for the whole family. The house has beautiful views of the hills with a grove of red gums to the west and south; large living room windows admit these views, while winter sunshine is admitted to the living rooms through northern glass.
